It was suppose to happen already earlier this year, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas bumping beauties on the big screen, but 20th Century Studios either lost their nerve or didn’t believe in the film as a big-screen effort. Instead, the long-awaited erotic thriller, which was originally scheduled for January 2022, will now be available on Hulu on March 18. The film, directed by Adrian Lyne, is about a well-to-do husband who allows his wife to have affairs in order to avoid divorce and becomes a prime suspect in the disappearance of her lovers. The official synopsis is as follows:
Based on the celebrated novel by famed mystery writer Patricia Highsmith (“The Talented Mr. Ripley“), “Deep Water” takes us inside the marriage of picture-perfect Vic (Ben Affleck) and Melinda (Ana de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games they play and what happens to the people who get caught up in them.
The film’s distribution will be split between the two streaming services; Hulu will distribute domestically in the United States, while Amazon will distribute internationally. The film’s initial theatrical release date was January 14. Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas play Vic and Melinda Van Allen, “whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead.” Lyne’s first directorial return since 2002’s Unfaithful, which starred Diane Lane and Richard Gere. Grab a cup of coffee and take a stroll around the neighborhood while you wait for the premiere.
